![]() ![]() The narrative canon dictates that your avatar, Gordon Freeman, reaches his goal. In HL2, for instance, you can save and reload as much as you want, and you can alter the difficulty level to change the effectiveness of your guns and armour. My favourite example of this is the Health mechanic used in narrative driven single player FPSes. Health and ammo are included in first person shooter games as a gameplay device rather than for realism -the beauty of a really good game is that it dresses up a fun mechanic in such a way that it's utterly convincing as part of the internal fiction. I was thinking that dealing with ammo in this way would be simple physic, not realism. So my conclusion is this: the reason why they don't do it is because gamers are just used to their bullet driven ammunition counting.Įdit 2: just to clarify, I do want and like fun games like MW2 and I know they are not realistic. So why not realistic ammunition management? I mean you can even deactivate the grenade warnings, now that changes gameplay and fun if you want to. I still don't get it though, there is a difference between realism found in rainbow six and simple logical game mechanics that would not change the gameplay at all. Instead, everyone tells me they want fun and that I go play tactical shooters if I want realism. That actually would mean my very death because I got so used to this that I reload after every shot, even if I only fired a single bullet, but I still think it would add a lot to the realism of the game.Įdit: weird, I really thought more people would be with me on that one. It's not like the guy in the middle of ennemy fire is going to manually extract the remaining bullets to keep them for later. It makes no fucking sense that you wouldn't lose the bullets remaining in your mag when you reload. The only game I have ever played where your ammo was counted in magazines and not bullets was Battlefield 1942. Click here for a list of other gaming subreddits.
